Itinerary – 6 Days Machame Route

Day 1 – Machame Gate to Machame Camp:

Drive from Moshi/Arusha to Machame Gate (1,800m). Begin your hike through lush rainforest, ascending gradually to Machame Camp at 3,000 meters. Expect a 5–7 hour trek. Overnight at Machame Camp.

Day 2 – Machame Camp to Shira Camp:

Hike through moorland and heather landscapes, enjoying views of Kibo Peak. The trail leads to Shira Camp (3,840m) with a 4–6 hour trek. Overnight at Shira Camp.

Day 3 – Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower:

Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp (3,950m). This hike helps with altitude adjustment and takes around 6–8 hours. Overnight at Barranco Camp.

Day 4 – Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp:

Climb the famous Barranco Wall and continue over ridges and valleys toward Barafu Camp (4,673m). The hike lasts 7–9 hours. Prepare for the midnight summit push. Overnight at Barafu Camp.

Day 5 – Summit Attempt (Uhuru Peak) & Descent to Mweka Camp:

Start around midnight, trekking to Stella Point (5,739m) and onwards to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the summit of Kilimanjaro. After sunrise photos, descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m). This long, challenging day lasts 12–15 hours. Overnight at Mweka Camp.

Day 6 – Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate:

After breakfast, continue descending through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you’ll receive your summit certificates. Drive back to Moshi/Arusha. Trek time: 3–4 hours.
