Experience the Kilimanjaro Machame Route with this detailed 7 Days Itinerary by Jayva African Adventures. Ideal for acclimatization and summit success.
The 7 Days Machame Route is a longer and more gradual version of the 6-day trek, giving climbers a better chance to acclimatize and reach the summit successfully. Known for its stunning scenery and varied ecosystems, this route winds through lush rainforest, high moorland, and alpine desert before reaching the glacier-capped Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters.
After registration at the gate (1,800m), start your hike through montane rainforest to Machame Camp (3,000m). Trek time: 5–7 hours.
Climb past the forest and enter heather and moorland zones. Reach Shira Camp (3,840m) in 4–6 hours. Enjoy views of Kibo and Shira Plateau.
Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp (3,950m). The hike takes 6–8 hours and helps prepare your body for high altitudes.
Climb the challenging Barranco Wall and continue to Karanga Camp (3,995m). This is a short but important acclimatization day. Trek time: 4–5 hours.
A steady hike leads you to Barafu Camp (4,673m), the base for your summit attempt. Rest early before the midnight climb. Trek time: 3–5 hours.
Start the final ascent at midnight, reach Stella Point (5,739m), then Uhuru Peak (5,895m) for sunrise. After celebrating, descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m). Trek time: 12–15 hours.
Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m) where you'll receive your summit certificate. Drive back to Moshi/Arusha. Trek time: 3–4 hours.
