Upon arrival at Marangu Gate (1,860m), you’ll register before starting your climb. The first day is relatively easy, as you hike through the lush rainforest zone to Mandara Hut (2,700m). After breakfast, continue your ascent to Horombo Hut (3,720m). The hike will take approximately 5–6 hours as you move from the rainforest to the moorland zone. Today, you’ll hike from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,703m), a challenging but rewarding day. The trek takes around 4–5 hours, and as you ascend, the terrain becomes more arid and rocky. Kibo Hut is located at the base of the summit cone, and this is where you’ll rest and prepare for your final push to the summit.
This is the most challenging day of the climb. After a very early start around midnight, you’ll begin your ascent to the summit, Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The climb will take several hours, passing by Gilman’s Point before reaching the summit. After spending time at the summit and taking in the views, you’ll begin your descent back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut in the afternoon. The total time for this day’s trek is around 12–14 hours.
After breakfast at Horombo Hut, you’ll begin your descent back to Marangu Gate (1,860m) through the forest. The descent will take around 5–6 hours, and you’ll experience a different perspective of the mountain as you make your way down. Once at Marangu Gate, you’ll receive your summit certificate in recognition of your achievement.
On this final day, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. After your exhilarating climb, take some time to relax, celebrate your accomplishment, and reflect on the incredible experience.
